SOPHIA PROJECT
Sustainable Off-grid solutions for Pharmacies and Hospitals in Africa.
FINANCIAL BUDGET: EUR 7,372,362
The project is dedicated to the development of solar-powered cold rooms for hospitals, which are equipped with deep-freeze rooms for storing vaccines. At the same time, work is being carried out on the development of solar-powered water treatment containers to improve the water supply in remote or infrastructurally weak regions. A total of four pilot sites are being realised: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Malawi and Uganda. The technologies are to be tested there under real conditions and their impact evaluated. The Steinbeis Europe Centre (SEZ) and the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) are involved as project partners. The project has received funding of EUR 7,372,362 from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement no. 101036836).

LEAP-RE SMART APV
FINANCIAL BUDGET: EUR 2,068,076
The project is concerned with the development of an agri-PV system for berry production. It combines agricultural production and photovoltaics in order to sustainably optimise both crop yields and energy generation. The pilot site is located in Morocco, where the innovative technology is being trialled under practical conditions. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and ANR France are involved as project partners. The project is funded by the European Union and has a total project volume of EUR 2,068,076.

SMACUMED PROJECT
FINANCIAL BUDGET: 1,235,646 EUR
The project is dedicated to the development of a solar desalination plant. The aim is to use solar energy to efficiently convert seawater or salty water into drinking water and thus contribute to sustainable water production. The pilot site for this project is in Morocco, where the technology is being tested on site. Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) is involved as a project partner. The project is being funded by the European Union and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to the tune of EUR 1,235,646.
