100kW solar power supply and AC mini-grid

RAACH SOLAR has successfully commissioned a 100kW photovoltaic village power supply system near Freetown in Sierra Leone.

The local non-governmental organisation "WAMA GRISO" has implemented the water supply project with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and invested in a 100kW photovoltaic AC mini-grid and water distribution system for its school and the nearby village of Mambo, around 10km from the capital Freetown in Sierra Leone. "The school, which has around 400 pupils, benefits directly from clean borehole water and sees electricity and light for the first time," says a delighted Mrs Maria Walz, head of the NGO. "We didn't want to compromise on the quality of the components and only selected the best suppliers and installers," continued Mrs Walz.
